Welcome to TrekPhilmont!
Welcome to the Heart of Ohio Council, BSA, Philmont Contingent's website! This Heart of Ohio Council Philmont program was started by Mr. Tom Dorsey in 1974 and continues to thrive.
The purpose of the contingent is to offer the youth in the council one of the highlights of the Scouting movement. There may be one or two youth in a unit who want to go to Philmont but no adult leaders or a father / son combination and no one else. The contingent is available to provide those members an opportunity to experience Philmont.
The mission is to continue giving the Scouts and adult leaders in the council, an opportunity they may not have otherwise. The program continues to evolve, to keep up with the interests of the participants. This trip also gives the participants an opportunity to travel by train as they head out west.
Planning begins 16 months before departure date. Since the beginning of this program more than 2000 Scouts and leaders from Ohio and adjacent states have enjoyed the challenge of backpacking in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico, with our contingent.
This website contains almost everything you need to know about our upcoming trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch. I am sure there will be some additional questions that you will have during the next few months. If you have a question, feel free to post it to the Forums where someone with Philmont experience will answer your question.
I hope you enjoy the trip and challenges you will experience with your fellow Scouts and leaders at Philmont. It is a life changing experience that you will remember the rest of your life.
Yours in Scouting,
Terry Brown
Philmont Contingent Director
