I'm pro high top boots made from goretex for good ankle support and water resistance. I take crocs for in camp use. Mine are ASOLO and I can wear them all day and never had a blister.

As I'm sitting here nearly 2 months after returning from my most recent Trek, I wanted to provide another incite. MY FEET STILL HURT ! Yep I had a great pair of boots that I used in 2008 and 2009 but then I lost about 35lbs and my feet shrank. I hurried out and bought a new pair of Scarpa's but I was fitted incorrectly. My feet were sore nearly the entire trip and to this day my right foot is still hurting. When you buy your gear, spend the extra and go to a reputable out door store and insist on an experienced sale person, who is well trained in proper fitting.

There are many good Brands of Hiking boots out there. One boot will work great for one person and another boot for another person.

When people ask me about selecting a boot. I tell them to look at boots that offers good ankle support. Its also good to be able to try the boot on a incline. You want a boot that your foot is firmly planted in the boot with little foward slipage. This way when your hiking down a incline your toes are not pushing into the front of the boots. For short trips this isn't much of a issue, but on long downhill days your toes will start getting sore.

I took a pair of ASOLO boots with me in 2007. They held up great and I still use them today. For my next trek I will be getting another pair of ASOLO boots. They are a heavier boot but they have wonderful Ankle support. The only issue for some other than fit is the over all price of them.
